Biography

ARAR Choir was established in 2012, in Yerevan, by conductor Gor Melkumyan. The choir performs in female and mixed staff. ARAR’s repertoire includes multi-genre music pieces, which are performed by ten and more foreign languages. The choir cooperates with Armenian and foreign contemporary composers, conducts independent concert activities, at the same time cooperating with many individuals and organizations. In 2013, the choir released its first album. From 2013 to 2015, with the efforts of ARAR Choir, the choirs of musical schools of Koghb and Berdavan villages in Tavush region were founded. The choral pieces of the choir are included in the album "Treasures of Music. Armenia”, released in 2017. Since 2018, ARAR has been participating in the concerts dedicated to the International Day of Choral Art. In 2019, at the jubilee event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan, ARAR Choir performed a concert program.

In 2020, the Choir published a collection of "Romances" by Persian-Armenian conductor-composer Geora Minassian.
Concert-lectures dedicated to philosopher-musicians are one of the most important projects of the choir, one of which the project "Friedrich Nietzsche: Imbodied music" held in 2021 for the first time in Armenia. In 2021 ARAR Choir performed at the concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the contemporary composer Yervand Yerkanyan. In 2021 the Choir won the "Gold Award" of the "World Peace Choral Festival 2021". In 2021-2022 the conductor of the Choir - Gor Melkumyan and ARAR Choir took part in the project "Komitas. The Land and the Song". In 2022 ARAR choir won the second prize of the "SILVER BELLS" international festival of sacred music. In 2022 in the house-museum of Yeghishe Charents, the sound-library of the ARAR choir was installed, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the poet. In 2022 the Choir organized and performed in a concert dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the famous Armenian sculptor Ara Sargsyan. In 2022 the Choir performed at the international conference dedicated to the 510th anniversary of Armenian printing organized by the National Library of Armenia.
During these ten years, the choir has formed its own philosophy, in which the selection of works, the development and implementation of the projects with historical and deep substrates, interpretations and the formation of a high-quality audience are the issues of primary importance.
